£20,000 in compensation recovered for Mr D when he developed pressure sores whilst under hospital supervision and care.

On 25 March 2005 Mr D fell at his home and was admitted to hospital where he was found to have suffered a fracture of his left iliac crest. A pressure risk assessment was undertaken which gave him a Waterlow score of 13, indicating that he was at risk of developing a pressure sore.

Despite this, no action was taken. On 29 March Mr D was noted to have a blister to his right heel and another noted on his left heel the following day. Despite this no treatment was given to either sore until 7 April when it was noted that Mr D's heels were necrotic. Again, no steps were taken to relieve the damage by way of pressure relieving aids.

On 4 May 2005 Mr D was transferred a rehabilitation unit with his catheter still in place and required maggot therapy to clear dead tissue from the ulcers whilst oromorph was provided for pain relief.

Mr D contacted us 5 months after the limitation period had expired. Despite this the case was pursued on the basis that the Defendant would not be prejudiced by the late issuing of this claim and the Defendant entered into early negotiations to settle the claim.
