£15,000 recovered for infant's eye disorder missed by GP

The Claimant in this case is a 17 year old teenager who, at the age of 4 years, was referred by the Health Visitor to the GP for assessment of a suspected squint. The GP failed to properly examine the Claimant, and hence an opportunity to diagnose this condition was overlooked.

It was not until several years later when the Claimant was experiencing symptoms of blurred vision that his parents took him to a local eye hospital to be examined that the diagnosis of a divergent squint was reached. By this time it was too late to undertake the standard treatment of eye patching which would have resolved this problem. The Claimant now suffers binocular vision and this has prevented him from following a career as an airline pilot.

This case concluded following protracted negotiation with the Defendant at £15,000 plus payment of legal fees and the settlement was approved by the court shortly afterwards.
