Intensive Care Mistakes
Sometimes babies are born in a poor condition for a variety of
reasons and therefore treated in the Special Care Baby Unit
(SCBU) or the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU). Many of these
babies recover and become fit and healthy children. Others sadly
will always be disabled to some extent or may even die.
Very occasionally one of these babies will not be monitored or
treated properly and as a result suffer a serious brain injury and
develops cerebral palsy.
These cases often involve medical negligence resulting from a
delay in diagnosing and treating severe jaundice, low (or very
rarely, high) blood glucose levels and neonatal infections.
