A 30 year old woman's family received £250,000 following her
death which occurred as a result of a failure on the part of
medical staff at Poole Hospital NHS Trust to recognise that her
cervical cancer had returned.
In March 2006 the woman underwent a hysterectomy and
radiotherapy following a diagnosis of cervical cancer. After the
procedures, despite increasing pain in her groin and lower abdomen,
she was told it was normal. After 8 months she finally received an
MRI scan which showed an advanced inoperable tumour and she later
died in October 2007.
Simon Parford, a Partner and head of the clinical negligence
department at Wolferstans commented that, "this was a terrible
tragedy for the family which could and should have been avoided.
Whilst no award of damages can ever replace a loved one the
compensation paid will help the family adjust to the future."
