20/10/10: Compensation Award for Young Man with Brain Damage

20 October 2010

A 17 year old boy was awarded a lump sum of £1.27 million and annual payments of over £350,000 every year for the remainder of his life after he sustained severe brain damage. The injury occurred as a result of a failure on the part of the nursing staff to monitor him properly whilst he was a patient of the Great Ormond Street Hospital NHS Trust. The boy was left with permanent four limb paralysis and he was expected to survive for a further 11 - 13 years.

Simon Parford, Partner and head of the clinical negligence department at Wolferstans, commented that "this young man has received the compensation to which he is entitled to enable him to provide for his complex needs for the rest of his life."
